PM Modi to Attend Swearing-in Ceremonies of Nagaland & Meghalaya CM

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a two-day visit to north-eastern states from today. Mr Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Ministers in Nagaland and Meghalaya today and Tripura tomorrow.

In Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio will be sworn in as the Chief Minister for the fifth term at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima this afternoon. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima, at 1:30 PM.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J P Nadda, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale and Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass will attend the ceremony.

Mention may be made that the NDPP- BJP alliance won a thumping majority of 37 seats in the 60 Assembly Constituencies.  This will be the second consecutive term for NDPP- BJP alliance to form the government in Nagaland.

In Meghalaya, NPP President Conrad K Sangma will be taking the oath of office for the second time at 11 AM. The Prime Minister will reach Assam’s Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and from there he will reach to Shillong.

The NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) has staked claim to form the government for the second consecutive term in the state.  Conrad K Sangma will lead the alliance in Meghalaya MDA 2.0 and he will serve as the chairman of the alliance.

As Mr Sangma told the media yesterday, the 12-member Meghalaya cabinet will comprise 8 from NPP while two will be given to the United Democratic Party (UDP) and one each to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP).

All MDA alliance members agreed as the partners are the same and decided to elect the Chief Minister as the Chairman of the MDA-2 as well. Besides, all three regions in the state will have equal representation in the cabinet. Elaborate arrangements are being made for the swearing ceremony at Shillong this morning.

In Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with all the ministers of the state government in Guwahati this evening. He is expected to review the various welfare activities and implementation of schemes of the governments in the meeting among others.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with all other ministers will attend the meeting. The Assam government has taken all necessary steps ahead of the meeting with the Prime Minister.

Mr Modi will visit North East for two days beginning today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura Chief Ministers. He will stay in Guwahati tonight.

In Tripura, senior BJP leader, Dr Manik Saha is all set to take oath as the Chief Minister of the state for the second consecutive time tomorrow. In a legislature party meeting of the BJP held yesterday, Dr Saha was unanimously elected the leader of the House.

After being unanimously elected the leader of the legislative party, Dr Saha later called on Governor Satyadeo Narayan Arya at the Raj Bhavan and staked claim to form the new government.

The BJP-IPFT alliance have won 33 out of the total 60 seats in the Tripura Legislative Assembly to return back to power in this northeastern state.

Meanwhile, hectic preparations are underway at the Swami Vivekanand Ground in Agartala for the swearing-in ceremony of the new CM and his council of ministers that will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J.P. Nadda, several Central Ministers, chief ministers from the north-eastern states, bureaucrats, top officials from different departments of the government and common people.
