Prime Accused of Balasore Acid Attack Arrested

Balasore: Police have arrested Chandan Rana, the prime accused of the Balasore acid attack. So far eight persons were arrested in this connection.

“Our team today succeeded in apprehending the prime accused in the 20th February acid attack case which took place under Sahadevkhunta police limits,” informed Balasore SP Sagarika Nath.

One of the victims, identified as Banita Singh succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack.

According to reports, two sisters and two children have suffered serious burn injuries after the miscreants allegedly barged into the house and splashed acid on them.

According to reports, one Chandan Rana of Nilgiri’s Santara Gadiya area got married to Banita Singh of the Bhimpura area of Remuna Block, less than a month and a half ago.

After their marriage, it was found that Chandan was already married and had two children from his first wife. When Abanti’s family came to know about this, a dispute arose and they both started staying separately.

The families had approached the police in this matter. Abanti was staying at her sister’s house in Bhimpura. Today morning, Chandan came to this house and splashed acid on Banita, her sister Barsha and the latter’s two minor children.

They were shifted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment. Out of the two children, one has been moved to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
