“Provide Us Brides”; Grooms hold Demonstration in Maharashtra

Solapur: A group of eligible bachelors in bridegrooms’ attire took out a morcha in Maharashtra’s Solapur on Wednesday demanding the government to arrange brides for their marriage. Through this unique rally, they highlighted the burning issue of the declining sex ratio in Maharashtra because of which eligible males are not able to find a girl to marry.

All of them donned wedding costumes and rode horses. Accompanied by a band party they marched to the office of the Solapur collector.

This ‘bridegroom morcha’ submitted a memorandum at the Solapur district collector’s office demanding strict implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act to improve the male-female ratio in Maharashtra.

They urged the Maharashtra government to arrange brides for the participants of this agitation.

“People may mock this morcha, but the grim reality is that youth of marriageable age are not getting brides just because the male-female ratio is skewed in the state,” said Ramesh Baraskar, who leads the founder of the Jyoti Kranti Parishad that organised the event.

As per reports, Maharashtra’s sex ratio was 889 girls per 1,000 boys.
