Rahul Gandhi Visits His Former Constituency Wayanad for the 1st Time After Disqualification

New Delhi: After being disqualified as an MP, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited his erstwhile constituency Wayanad in Kerala for the first time on Tuesday. He was elected as the Wayanad MP in 2019. He was disqualified as a Lok Sabha MP after being sentenced to two years in jail by a Surat court in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his “Modi surname” remark.

Before taking up his proposed ‘Satyamev Jayate’ roadshow in Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi met former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. His sister Priyanka Gandhi accompanied him during the roadshow, which is seen as a show of strength by Congress.

Congress preferred to use the Tricolor extensively rather than the party flag during this roadshow in Wayanad. Ahead of the roadshow, the Kerala Congress put up posters of Rahul’s statement on Veer Savarkar everywhere. The poster read, “I am not Savarkar, I will not apologize nor will I run away.”

The roadshow led by Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi began from SK MJ High School. The roadshow will culminate in a public meeting to be addressed by Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.

In 2019, Rahul Gandhi contested Lok Sabha elections from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh and Wayanad in Kerala. While he lost Amethi seat to BJP’s Smriti Irani, he won from Wayanad in Kerala.
