Rebellion in Russia: Mercenary Private Army Threatens Putin Govt

A private army of mercenaries named the Wagner Group has threatened the Putin government in Russia. This mercenary group is reported to have entered the southern Russian city of Rostov. Russian government termed it an “armed rebellion”.

Following this development, security has been heightened in Moscow.

The Wagner group’s head Yevgeny Prigozhin has vowed to topple the Putin-led Moscow leadership.

In an audio message, Prigozhin threatened to dismantle Russia’s military leadership in Moscow, saying his forces would “destroy everything” in their way.

Russia’s FSB security service opened a criminal case against Prigozhin and has called upon the Wagner private military company forces to ignore his orders and arrest him.

A long-running feud between the mercenary leader and Russia’s defense establishment has sparked off the present confrontation. It is greatest stumbling block faced by Putin since he attacked Ukraine in 2022.

Prigozhin claimed to have shot down a helicopter that challenged them.
