Rs 153.84 Cr Allotted for Tripura-Bangladesh Railway Line

New Delhi: The Railway Ministry has allocated Rs 153.84 crores for the under-construction railway line connecting India’s Tripura to Bangladesh. This Rs 862.58 crore worth Agartala-Akhaura (Bangladesh) railway project is expected to be ready for regular transportation by the end of 2023 or early 2024.

This ambitious railway project is funded by the Ministry of DONER (Development of North Eastern Region). Around Rs 708.74 crore has been already spent on the project.

The 15.064 km long railway line (5.05 km in India and 10.014 km in Bangladesh) would link Bangladesh’s Akhaura through an international immigration station at Nischintapur (on the outskirts of Agartala).

After completion of the project, the travel time between Agartala and Kolkata via Dhaka of about 31 hours would get reduced to 10 hours.

At present, the people of Tripura and its adjoining areas spend more than 31 hours to travel to Kolkata via Guwahati by rail.

This railway project would also boost export, import and tourism in the region.
