RTI Activist Murdered in Telangana, BRS Member Prime Accused

Hyderabad: A 70-year-old Right to Information (RTI) activist named Nalla Ramakrishnaiah was murdered in Telangana’s Jangaon district. He was a retired Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO).

Three persons were arrested for kidnapping and killing of this RTI activist. According to police sources, tussle over a patch of land is suspected to be the reason behind his murder.

Body of the RTI activist was located in a water-filled quarry, three days after he went missing.

G Anjaiah, the prime accused, had a land dispute with Ramakrishnaiah and allegedly hired a contract killer gang to murder the RTI activist.

Ramakrishnaiah had filed RTI applications and civil suits in court and had also approached the Human Rights Commission against Anjaiah for cancellation of pattas (land deeds) pertaining to a government-assigned land in Pochannapet village which the latter had allegedly occupied.

Ramakrishnaiah is suspected to be kidnapped on June 15 from Pochannapeta. The killers strangled him to death and dumped the body in a quarry pond.

The prime accused, Anjaiah is the husband of a local Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) member and is associated with the belonging to the ruling BRS. He had allegedly promised to pay Rs 8 lakh for the murder of the RTI activist.
