SC Issues Notice to Bihar Govt On Premature Release of Gangster-Politico Anand Mohan

New Delhi: Bihar government and convicted former MP Anand Mohan were issued notices by the Supreme Court on Monday over the gangster-politician’s premature release from jail.

Anand Mohan was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of IAS officer G Krishnaiah. Because of an amendment in Bihar prison rules, he could get released from Saharsa jail in April.

The murdered IAS officer’s wife, Uma Krishnaiah challenged the premature release of the gangster-politician at the Supreme Court. Earlier, a group representing central civil services officers had expressed “deep dismay” at the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government’s move to tweak prison rules that set free Anand Mohan.

Krishnaiah was dragged out of his official car and lynched by a mob provoked by the gangster-politician from the Kosi area of north Bihar on December 5, 1994. Anand Mohan was sentenced to death by a trial court in 2007. A year later, the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna High Court. Supreme Court also did not give him any relief.
