Sell & Distribution of Book on Tipu Sultan Stayed by Court in Karnataka

Bengaluru: A court in Bengaluru imposed an interim stay on the distribution and sale of a book on Tipu Sultan after accepting a plea that alleged that the book contained wrong information about the erstwhile Mysuru ruler.

The Additional City Civil and Sessions court of Bengaluru on Tuesday restrained the author, publisher, and printer of the book from selling it till December 3.

This book in Kannada language is titled ‘Tipu Nija Kanasugalu’ (Real Dreams of Tipu). It is written by Rangayana director Addanda C Cariappa.

Former chairman of the District Wakf Board Committee, BS Rafiulla, had filed a case in court seeking a ban on this book with the claim that it contains wrong information on Tipu Sultan. He also alleged that derogatory remark had been made against Tipu Sultan in this book. He feared that the publication and sale of this book may cause communal disharmony and disruption of peace.

Muslim groups had earlier staged protest against the book.
