TikTok Fires All Employees in India

Chinese short video-making app TikTok has reportedly sacked its entire staff in India. Around 40 Indian employees of the company have received notices for layoff. February 28 will be their last working day with TikTok.

The ByteDance-owned TikTok was banned in India in June 2020 due to national security concerns.

America is also planning to put a ban on TikTok. US Senator Michael Bennett has urged Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai to immediately remove TikTok from their app stores, calling it an unacceptable risk to American national security.

Over 300 Chinese Apps like TikTok were found to be violating Section 69 of the IT Act and contained materials that were deemed as a threat to India’s sovereignty and integrity. All of them were banned by the Central government. They included WeChat, Shareit, Helo, Likee, UC News, Bigo Live, UC Browser, and many more. About a week back Centre blocked over 230 apps having Chinese links. They included 138 betting and about 94 loan apps that were cheating Indians.
