Indonesia’s East Java’s highest volcano erupted violently on Sunday. Indonesian authorities put the inhabitants of the area on high alert. A region of 8-Km radius around the live volcano has been declared no-go zone. Villagers of the area were evacuated.
No casualties were reported from the area. The 3,676-metre high volcano erupted at 2.46 pm local time on Sunday (0746GMT).

Videos shot by local residents showed the volcano Mt. Semeru erupting large amounts of grey ash. This ash engulfed the mountain and surrounding area. A video shared by the Environment Ministry of Indonesia showed the flow of hot lava. Following the volcanic eruption, people fled the area on their bikes.

Till now around 2500 people have been evacuated from the dangerous region. Last year this volcano erupted killing more than 50 persons.
Indonesia is one of the most volcanic disaster-prone nations on earth. It has 142 volcanoes. Around 8.6 million population of the country lives within 10km of any volcano.
