Wife & Two Others Arrested For Man’s Murder in Mayurbhanj

Mayurbhanj: Police have arrested three people, days after a man was found dead near NH 49 within Bisoi limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The three accused include wife of the deceased, her lover, and a driver.

The deceased was identified as Purendra Nayak of Kendupada village of Dhenkanal district.

The accused Sebati, her lover Umesh Mahant and driver Litu Parida were produced in court after being apprehended. They confessed their crime during the interrogation.

The trio conspired to kill Purendra as he was getting in the way of his wife’s illicit relationship with Umesh, said Mayurbhanj SP Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari.

According to sources, Sebati was married to Purendra but was in love with Umesh. The duo continued their affair even after Sebati’s marriage. As they felt Purendra to be a hindrance to their relationship, they conspired to kill him.

According to their plan, Purendra came to Mayurbhanj on November 19 and dropped Sebati at her aunts house. Umesh and Litu joined Purendra and took him to a roadside eatery to have lunch. They drank alcohol and took Purendra near Mahubhandra bridge where they killed him by slitting his throat.

Purendra’s body was recovered by the police the next day. A team led by Rairangpur SDPO Gokulanand Sahu and Bisoi IIC Mini Bhoi started a probe.

After investigation, the whereabouts of the accused were traced. The trio was arrested and they confessed their crime during interrogation.
