Wild Elephant Tramples Woman to Death in Athagarh

Bhubaneswar: A wild elephant trampled an elderly woman to death in Tnguri Reserve Forest under the Badamba forest range in Athagarh of Cuttack district on Tuesday.

The deceased identified as Gayadhar Dehuri was from the Khalimati village under the Badamba police station limits.

She faced the elephant attack while she was inside the Tanguri Reserve Forest to collect wood. When she did not return home, her family members searched for her and later informed the forest department.

Forest officials located her body inside the forest. The mutilated condition of the body suggested that she died in an elephant tack.

The body has been sent to Badamba Community Health Centre for postmortem. According to forest officials, her family will be provided ex-gratia as per the government norms.
