Dhanu Yatra: Odisha’s Grand Open-Air Drama Begins in Bargarh on January 15, 2024

Bargarh: Dhanu Yatra, the world’s largest open-air theatre, is set to commence in the western Odisha town of Bargarh on January 15, 2024. The festival schedule was finalized during a meeting chaired by District Collector Monisha Banerjee in Bargarh. The 11-day event will unfold from January 15 to January 25, with the participation of senior officials, Dhanu Yatra Committee members, and local leaders.

Dhanu Yatra, rooted in Krishna Leela, will vividly portray the mythological narrative of Krishna and his uncle Kansa. Bargarh undergoes a captivating transformation into Mathura for the duration of the festival, with the symbolic representation of the Yamuna River by the River Jeera and the conversion of Ambapali, situated across Jeera, into Gopapur.

Central to the festival is the character of Kansa, and the theme draws inspiration from ‘Krishna Leela’ and ‘Mathura Vijay.’ Noteworthy constructions include a colossal royal court (Raj Durbar) measuring 42 feet tall, 120 feet long, and 35 feet wide for King Kansa, along with a Rangamahal where actors will stage performances.

Experience the grandeur of Dhanu Yatra as Bargarh comes alive with the enchanting tale of Krishna and Kansa from January 15 to January 25, 2024.
