BJD Leader Arrested Over Accusation Of Raping Woman On Pretext Of Marriage

Kandhamal: A leader of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) was arrested by Tikabali police in Kandhamal on Monday after a lady accused him of raping her on the pretext of marriage.

The accused, identified as N Luka, is the G Udayagiri block vice president of BJD.

As per reports, the accused and victim were set to get married in 2020. The victim said that the accused subjected her to almost a year of forced physical relations. Afterwards, when the victim asked Luka to marry her, he declined.

The woman said in her FIR that Luka refused to marry her because he was in a relationship with another female.

The police registered a case based on the complaint and arrested Luka. According to a senior officer, the culprit would be brought before the court after the proper procedure.
