Economy Meals Priced at ₹20-50 Launched at 5 Railway Stations in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In preparation for an expected increase in summer travel, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has introduced a special economy meal service at nine key stations, including five in Odisha.

This service, now available at stations like Khurda Road, Sambalpur, Titilagarh, Balangir, and Kantabanji in Odisha, as well as Palasa, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, is a collaborative effort between Indian Railways and the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

It aims to offer hygienic meals and snacks at reasonable prices to passengers travelling in unreserved general class coaches. These budget-friendly meals can be found at counters located near general second-class (GS) coaches.

According to ECoR sources, the meals are priced at Rs 20, with snack meals available for Rs 50 for those seeking a lighter option.

Initially launched as a pilot project at approximately 51 stations last year, the economy meal service has expanded to over 100 stations and approximately 150 counters.
