Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a major boost for Odisha’s cultural heritage with a ₹50,000 grant allocated to each ‘Bhagabata Tungi’ across the state. These traditional community centres considered vital to the spiritual, cultural, and social fabric of rural Odisha, will receive funding to enhance their vibrancy and functionality.
Bhagabata Tungis have long served as a cornerstone of village life, fostering unity and a shared identity among Odia communities. This initiative by the Chief Minister aims to revitalize these centres, ensuring their continued role in preserving Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
With over 7,200 Bhagabata Tungis spread across the state, the ₹50,000 grant per Tungi promises significant investment. The Odia Language, Literature and Culture department will oversee the development process, ensuring the funds are utilized effectively.
