Odisha Plans 11 New Police Camps to Intensify Anti-Maoist Operations

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to bolster efforts against left-wing extremists (LWEs), Director General of Police Sunil Kumar Bansal announced the establishment of at least 11 new police camps in Odisha. The decision, revealed after a comprehensive review of ongoing anti-Maoist operations in Bhubaneswar, aims to enhance the effectiveness of the battle against ultras.

Director General Bansal highlighted the imminent focus on addressing the challenge posed by the Kandhamal-Kalahandi-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) and Nayanpuri divisions of the outlawed CPI (Maoist). With an eye on the 2024 elections, he emphasized the significance of addressing the Maoist threat in the affected districts, considering them a major challenge for law enforcement.

Championing a strategic approach, the DGP led a high-level meeting attended by key figures, including Intelligence Director Sanjeeb Panda, ADG (Operations) Debadatta Singh, Intelligence DIG Anup Kumar Sahoo, and SIW DIG Umashankar Dash. The meeting also saw the participation of Superintendents of Police (SPs) from 10 Maoist-affected districts, as well as officials from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Inspectors General and DIGs.
