Another Odisha PSU Earns National Recognition with Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd (OMC) is set to be honoured with the prestigious Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar 2023 in the category of ‘Encouragement to sports through Corporate Social Responsibility,’ as announced by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The award ceremony will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 9, where the President will confer the accolade.

The Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar is bestowed upon corporate entities, both in the private and public sectors, sports control boards, NGOs, and sports bodies at the state and national levels for their significant contributions to sports promotion and development.

OMC, the largest State PSU in the mining sector, allocates 3% of its net profit annually towards the development of sports in Odisha. Furthermore, the corporation has committed to a five-year contribution (2017-18 to 2021-22) aimed at the immediate and long-term development of hockey in India.

It is worth noting that Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar received the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar in 2022 for its exceptional sports infrastructure and success in grooming Olympians such as Dutee Chand, CA Bhavani Devi, Shivpal Singh, and Amit Rohidas. Additionally, in 2017, Idco, another State PSU, was honoured for its efforts in promoting and strengthening sports infrastructure in Odisha.
