World’s Biggest Hockey Stadium is Pride of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: It is a matter of pride for every Odia that the biggest hockey stadium in the world now rests on the soil of Odisha. With a seating capacity that exceeds 21,000 spectators, the newly built Birsa Munda Stadium in Odisha’s Rourkela is all set to become the largest stadium in the world to ever host a game of hockey.

Prior to the commencement of the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik will visit Rourkela today to officially inaugurate the biggest hockey stadium in the world- Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium.

“Look forward to inaugurate Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela named after legendary freedom fighter. World’s biggest stadium for hockey will be a fitting honour to his illustrious legacy and a tribute to Sundargarh’s contribution to Indian hockey,” CM Naveen Patnaik tweeted.

The CM will further launch the Mo Bus service and a number of other initiatives in the steel city.

Hosts India will begin their campaign against Spain in the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 at Rourkela on January 13.

The Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela will host up to 20 of the 44 hockey World Cup games, with the final and the other 24 games taking place in Bhubaneswar.

It is pertinent to mention here that Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium was the sole venue for the 2018 Hockey World Cup.
