Balasore: Hospital Negligence Alleged in Patient’s Death at Nilagiri Sub-Divisional Hospital

Balasore: A tragic incident occurred at the Nilagiri Sub-Divisional Hospital in Odisha’s Balasore district on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a patient.

The deceased, identified as Karan Singh, a resident of Ambajhar village, was admitted to the hospital five days ago due to illness.

The incident unfolded when Singh went to use the hospital’s toilet, but finding it unclean, opted for a toilet outside the hospital premises, sources revealed.

As Singh approached the external toilet, he tripped over wires from a broken cable lying on the ground, causing him to fall and hit his head on a nearby drain.

Though rushed back to the hospital, Singh was declared dead after examination.

Singh’s family has accused the hospital of negligence, stating that the unsanitary condition of the hospital toilet forced him to seek another facility, leading to the fatal incident. They also claimed the live wire from the broken cable, which was part of the hospital’s electrical system, contributed to his death.

Hospital In-Charge Sarojini Pradhan stated that an investigation will be conducted to determine the exact cause of Singh’s death. She added that contractors responsible for hospital electrical maintenance were instructed to remove the wires but failed to do so.
