Over 60 Kg Marijuana Seized From 3 Luxury Cars In Bhubaneswar, 4 Arrested

Bhubaneswar: In response to a credible tip-off, the Commissionerate Police made a significant bust on Sunday, confiscating a total of 60 kilograms of marijuana and apprehending four individuals involved in the illicit activity. This operation, initiated by the Chandaka police, centred on an area near Pitapalli Road.

During the course of the raid, law enforcement officers intercepted three luxury vehicles, conducting thorough searches of each. These inspections led to the discovery of 66.8 kilograms of ganja stashed within the rear seats of the cars. The individuals responsible for this illicit operation were swiftly taken into custody.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Bhima Madhab Dalei from Khorda Town, Babul Kumar Das from Banapur, Manoranjan Rout from Chandbali in Bhadrak, and Khirod Kumar Sahoo from Salepur. In addition to the marijuana seizure, six mobile phones were confiscated from their possession.

Notably, prior legal issues are associated with some of the individuals involved. Babul has two pending cases at the Tamando and Capital police stations, while Manoranjan faces a pending case under the NDPS Act at the Baliguda police station in Kandhamal.

Zone 6 ACP Ramesh Bisoi, in a media briefing, shared, “Upon a physical inspection of their vehicles, the banned substance was discovered concealed beneath the rear seats. Consequently, all four suspects were placed under arrest. The marijuana haul included 23 kilograms from a Hyundai car, 21.6 kilograms from a Tata Zest, and 22.2 kilograms from a Swift car. It is evident that all four individuals arrested were professional ganja smugglers.”
