Youth Dies in Mishap During Shivratri Celebrations In Temple In Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: A young man from Odisha’s Rayagada district lost his life on Friday while visiting a Shiva temple perched atop Devagiri hill near their village during Shivratri celebrations.

The deceased, identified as Srikant Goud of Amba village under Kalyansinghpur block, was reportedly trekking the hilly path to the temple along with his family when the incident occurred. Sources suggest he slipped and fell from a significant height.

Immediate action was taken by volunteers and police stationed near the shrine. Goud was rushed to the Kalyanshinghpur Community Health Centre, but unfortunately, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the health centre and initiated an investigation. An unnatural death case has been registered, and inquiries are underway.

The treacherous trek to the Devagiri Shiva temple has become a point of concern for locals. The lack of proper railings and a secured pathway necessitates devotees navigating a narrow, uneven path through bushes and large stones to reach the summit. In light of this recent tragedy, residents are urging authorities to construct a road or steps to ensure safer access to the temple for future visitors.
