Babar Azam Overtakes Rohit Sharma As Second-Highest T20I Run-Scorer

Pakistan captain Babar Azam etched his name in the record books during the second T20I against England at Edgbaston, surpassing Rohit Sharma to become the second-highest run scorer in the format’s history. Despite his knock, Pakistan fell short in their chase of 184 runs.

Azam’s 32-run knock, while not a match-winner, took him past Sharma’s total of 3974 runs. The Pakistani skipper now sits at number two with 3987 runs, with only Virat Kohli (4037 runs) ahead of him.

Sent in to bat first, England posted a competitive total of 183/7. Skipper Jos Buttler’s well-paced 84 (51 balls) was the highlight of the innings, while Shaheen Afridi (3/36) and Haris Rauf (2/34) impressed with the ball for Pakistan.

Pakistan’s chase began poorly, losing both openers cheaply. A fighting knock from Fakhar Zaman (45 off 21 balls) and partnerships with Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed kept them in the hunt. However, wickets fell at regular intervals, and Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 160 runs in 19.2 overs. Reece Topley (3/41) and Jofra Archer (2/28) were the pick of the England bowlers.
