Doha: Costa Rican star Keysher Fuller’s lone goal helped the red army to defeat Japan 1-0 in a Group E match of FIFA World Cup 2022 at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Al Rayyan on Sunday.
Fuller scored a goal in the 81st minute of the game to put his side in the driver’s seat, despite Japan getting desperate for a goal.
The match got off to a good start with both teams playing at a high tempo and looking for an early goal.
First-half of the play saw none of the teams getting a shot on target while the second half saw an improved attack from Japan, until Fuller scored against the run of play.
The strike from the Costa Rican right-back proved to be the difference between the two sides.
The Asian giants failed to recreate the magic from their opener against Germany as Keysher Fuller’s 81st-minute goal handed all three points to Costa Rica.
