India Clinches 8th Asian Kabaddi Championship Title, Defeats Iran in Thrilling Final

Busan: India emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against Iran, securing a remarkable 42-32 win in the Asian Kabaddi Championship 2023 final held in Busan, Republic of Korea. This remarkable victory marked India’s eighth title in nine editions of the championship.

Led by captain Pawan Sehrawat, the Indian men’s kabaddi team showcased exceptional skills throughout the game. Despite a slow start, India turned the tables in the 10th minute with a series of successful tackles and raids, forcing Iran to go all-out.

Seizing the momentum, the Indian team demonstrated outstanding all-around performance, steadily increasing their advantage. Although Iran managed to secure a few bonus points against the reigning champions, India inflicted a second all-out on Iran in the 19th minute.

Heading into the second half, India held a commanding 23-11 lead. However, Iran’s captain Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh orchestrated a remarkable comeback, inflicting the first all-out on India in the 29th minute with a two-point raid and a super raid.

With just two minutes remaining, Iran narrowed the lead to 38-31, intensifying the game’s atmosphere. Nonetheless, India displayed resilience and managed to hold on, ultimately securing a hard-fought 42-32 victory.

Earlier in the tournament, India had maintained an unbeaten record in the league stage, defeating Hong Kong convincingly with a score of 64-20.

India’s triumph in the Asian Kabaddi Championship 2023 highlights their dominance in the sport, solidifying their position as a formidable force in international kabaddi. The team’s exceptional performance and captain Pawan Sehrawat’s leadership were instrumental in securing the title once again.
