New Zealand’s Greg Barclay Gets Second Term As ICC Chairman

Greg Barclay of New Zealand was overwhelmingly elected to serve a second two-year term as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday.

After Tavengwa Mukuhlani of Zimbabwe withdrew from the election, Barclay was unchallenged, and the ICC Board reiterated its full support for the New Zealander to stay in charge.

“It is an honour to be re-elected as the Chair of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their support,” Barclay remarked after being re-appointed.

Barclay, a commercial lawyer from Auckland, was first chosen to serve as the ICC Chair in November 2020. He served as a director for the 2015 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and previously served as the chair of New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

The fact that he was elected without opposition further indicates that he had the support of the BCCI on the 17-member board.
