Pakistan Sink to Bottom of WTC Table After Crushing Defeat to England, India Firmly on Top with 8 Wins

Multan: England delivered a masterclass in Multan, securing a resounding innings and 47-run victory over Pakistan on the final day of the opening Test.

In a dominant display, England thrashed Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs on Friday, concluding the first Test match at Multan.

The visitors set a new record by declaring their first innings at an impressive 823-7, driven by Harry Brook’s sensational triple century (317) and Joe Root’s career-best score of 262. England’s bowlers then effectively dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup, quashing any hopes of a comeback.

Pakistan managed to reach 220 in their second innings, with notable contributions from Salman Ali Agha (63) and Aamer Jamal (55*). However, their efforts were insufficient as Jack Leach took control, claiming 4 wickets for just 30 runs, and sealing the game in the first session of Day 5.

This defeat marked a historic low for Pakistan, making them the first team to lose by an innings after scoring over 500 runs in the first innings of a Test match.

In the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, this loss further exacerbates Pakistan’s struggles, leaving them at the bottom of the table with only two victories from eight matches.

Meanwhile, India currently leads the WTC rankings, showcasing strong performance and consistent wins.

Captain Shan Masood’s sixth consecutive Test loss has significantly diminished Pakistan’s chances of reaching the WTC final. With this defeat marking their sixth straight loss and seventh at home in the last 11 Tests, Pakistan face a critical period of rebuilding ahead of the next game.

For England, this victory boosts their confidence as they aim to improve their position in the WTC rankings and vie for a spot in the final.

The second Test against Pakistan is set to begin next week in Multan.
