Paris Olympics Lifts Intimacy Ban, To Hand Out 3 Lakh Condoms To Athletes

The director of the Olympic Village for the upcoming 2024 Paris Games, Laurent Michaud, announced a change in policy regarding intimacy among athletes. In contrast to the restrictions imposed during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to the COVID-19 pandemic, where physical contact was limited, including sex, Michaud stated that intimacy will be allowed, emphasizing the importance of creating a welcoming and convivial atmosphere for the athletes.

Speaking to reporters, Michaud highlighted the significance of ensuring athletes’ comfort and enthusiasm during their stay in the Olympic Village. However, he also mentioned the absence of champagne in the village, although athletes will have access to it in Paris.

Despite the relaxation of intimacy rules, Michaud assured that health measures would still be in place. Meanwhile, preparations for the Paris Games are underway, with the most expensive Olympic construction project yet, costing an estimated $2.1 billion. The distribution of condoms, a tradition since the 1988 Seoul Olympics aimed at raising awareness of HIV and AIDS, will continue, with 300,000 condoms set to be available for the 14,250 athletes.

Paris anticipates hosting a memorable event, offering athletes not only an opportunity to compete but also to enjoy French specialities and international cuisine.
