Karnataka Youngster Smashes 404* in a Historic First in Indian Cricket

Young Karnataka cricketer Prakhar Chaturvedi achieved a historic milestone during the Cooch Behar Trophy final against Mumbai on Monday. Prakhar etched his name in the record books by scoring an unbeaten 404 runs in the first innings of India’s annual U-19 four-day competition.

During the title clash at the KSCA Navule Stadium, Prakhar, resuming from his overnight score of 256 not out, smashed an incredible 46 fours and three sixes. Karnataka declared their innings at a formidable 890/8, establishing a massive lead of 510 runs over Mumbai.

Despite the declaration on the fourth day, both teams opted for a draw, and Karnataka clinched the championship based on their substantial first-innings lead. This extraordinary inning by Prakhar made him the first player to achieve a score of 400+ in the final of the Cooch Behar Trophy.

Reflecting on the match, Karnataka’s decision to bowl first in Shivamogga initially seemed challenged by Ayush Mhatre’s impressive knock of 145, guiding Mumbai to a strong total of 380. However, standout performances from Karnataka’s bowlers, including Hardik Raj with figures of 4/80 and contributions from Samit Dravid and Samarth N, helped gain control.

While Harshil Dharmani’s notable score of 169 added to Karnataka’s dominance, it was undoubtedly overshadowed by Prakhar’s exceptional innings, ultimately securing their championship victory.
