Sikkim Set To Host Its Maiden Ranji Game

Gangtok: The Sikkim Cricket Ground has been granted permission by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to hold its first-ever Ranji Trophy game on December 13, 2022.

The stadium, which is located at Majhitar close to Rangpo, will host at least three Ranji Trophy games this season, with the hosts Sikkim taking on Manipur first (December 13–16), Mizoram next (December 27–30), and Arunachal Pradesh in the second week of the new year from January 10–13, 2023.

The two-year-old stadium, which is owned by the Sikkim Cricket Association (SiCA), is located 40 kilometres from Gangtok, the state’s capital. Anant Datar, the manager of cricket operations for the BCCI, recently toured the stadium, its amenities, and infrastructure and expressed his admiration for the progress made. This contributed to the stadium being given the opportunity to hold its first significant match.

“It gives us pleasure to inform you that the BCCI Official was impressed with the Sikkim Cricket Association’s recently developed facility. Cricket has developed and seen massive growth in the past three years, this would not have been possible without the support of the BCCI and the Government of Sikkim,” according to a statement from SiCA.
