Bhakta Das Resigns from OPCC Campaign Committee Chairman Post

Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and former Union minister, Bhakta Charan Das resigned from the post of Campaign Committee Chairman of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).

He sent his resignation letter to the AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge citing the party’s poor performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha as the reason behind his decision.

In his letter to Kharge, he said, “I was appointed as chairman of Campaign Committee of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee on 22nd March 2024. I am really grateful that the party reposed faith in me.”

“I worked hard to contribute my best but unfortunately we failed to come up to the expectations. We really appreciate the kind support and cooperation received from the Hon’ble Congress President, Former President Sri Rahul Gandhi Ji and other senior leaders of AICC during the election,” he added.

Das took the moral responsibility for the failure of the Congress to get the expected number of seats both in the Assembly and Parliament elections in Odisha.

Congress managed to win in one Lok Sabha seat and 14 Assembly constituencies in Odisha.

Das was defeated in the Narla Assembly seat by Manoram Mohanty of the BJD by a margin of 5,205 votes.
