Former MP Jaya Prada Acquitted in 2019 Poll Code Violation Case

Rampur (UP): Former MP and actor Jaya Prada has been acquitted by an MP-MLA court in a 2019 election code violation case.

The case, filed under IPC section 171 G (false statement in connection with an election), was registered against her during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls when she contested as a BJP candidate from Rampur but was defeated by Azam Khan of the Samajwadi Party.

Judge Shobhit Bansal pronounced the judgement, clearing Jaya Prada of the charges related to comments made at an election rally against Azam Khan. Senior prosecution officer Amarnath Tiwari confirmed that the case was based on allegations stemming from remarks she made during her campaign.

Speaking to reporters after the verdict, Jaya Prada expressed gratitude to the court and asserted her innocence, stating, “I have been a two-time MP from Rampur and have always spoken truthfully.” She reaffirmed her commitment to the constituency, emphasizing, “‘Satyamev Jayate’ (Truth alone triumphs).”
