Impending Low-Pressure to Intensify Into Depression, Heavy Rains Predicted for Odisha, Bengal

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory indicating the formation of a low-pressure area in the Southwest Bay of Bengal coast, expected to develop under the influence of a cyclonic circulation.

According to the latest forecast released by the IMD, this weather system is expected to track northeastward, potentially concentrating into a Depression over the central Bay of Bengal by May 24. Subsequently, it is projected to further intensify as it continues its northeastward trajectory.

Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for several states:

  • Odisha: May 25th – Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over Balasore district.
  • West Bengal: May 25th – Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places over North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and East Medinipur districts.
  • Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur: May 25th – Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places.
