Tamil Nadu Spurious Liquor Death Toll Rises to 47, Around 30 Fighting for Life

Chennai: The deaths in the Kallakurichi spurious liquor tragedy rose to 47, while around 30 others are still in hospitalized in critical condition.

According to the administration, after developing serious ailments following consumption of spurious liquor, a total of 165 people were admitted to the Kallakurichi, JIPMER, Salem and Mundiambakkam government hospitals. Out of them, 47 have died so far. The condition of 30 among the other 118 undergoing treatment is critical. Three affected persons have recovered.

Special teams have been formed to prevent the sale of illicit arrack in the district. Efforts were on in taking door enumeration in Karunapuram on the number of persons who could be affected. The administration has appealed to those among the public who had consumed illicit liquor to voluntarily subject themselves to medical examination soon to avert possible threat to their lives.
