Couple Arrested for Hacking 78-Yr-Old Woman, Chopping Her Body, Throwing Pieces in River in Chennai

Chennai: A couple was arrested on charges of killing a 78-year-old woman, chopping her body to pieces and dumping them in the Adyar river in Chennai of Tamil Nadu. The deceased woman was reported to be missing for more than 10 days.

The accused couple was arrested from Virudhunagar in connection with the murder.

The deceased identified as Vijaya was a daily wager living in MGR Nagar in Mylapore.

On July 17, Vijaya did not return home from work and on July 19, her daughter, Loganayagi filed a missing person report with the MGR Nagar Police.

Reviewing CCTV footage, police became suspicious of the activities of her neighbor, Parthiban, who tried to avoid police interrogation.

Tracking Parthiban’s cellphone, police located him hiding with his wife in Virudhunagar district.

Both confessed to killing Vijaya after she caught them stealing. They strangled her, chopped her body to pieces and threw the body parts into the Adyar River.
