Why Will Team India Wear ‘Pakistan’ on Asia Cup 2023 Jerseys?

The eagerly awaited schedule for Asia Cup 2023 was revealed, with BCCI Secretary and ACC Head, Jay Shah, finally making the announcement. The tournament will adopt a unique hybrid model, as India declined to travel to Pakistan, leading to the relocation of the event. It all kicks off with Pakistan facing Nepal in Multan, Pakistan, on August 30. The highly anticipated India-Pakistan match is set for September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

In a surprising move, Team India will sport the name ‘Pakistan’ on their jerseys during the Asia Cup 2023. Although India will play in Sri Lanka due to concerns about visiting Pakistan, the primary host, the jersey will reflect the host country’s name, just below the Asia Cup 2023 logo.

The Asia Cup campaign begins for Team India with the September 2 game against Pakistan, and if they progress to the Super 4s and the final of the Continental Cup, they could face their arch-rivals two more times.

After falling short in the 2022 Asia Cup, the Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, is eager to secure their seventh Asia Cup title. They enter the contest as the favourites, but they need to fine-tune their combinations ahead of World Cup 2023.
