Jajpur Med College to be Named After Ancient Somvanshi Ruler Jajati Keshari

Bhubaneswar: Jajpur Medical College and Hospital will be named after Jajati Keshari, the illustrious Somvanshi ruler who ruled Odisha centuries back. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved the proposal to name it after Jajati Keshari.

Jajati Keshari is remembered for the construction of the Lingaraj temple in Bhubaneswar, the establishment of Abhinav Jajnagar, the modern-day Jajpur, as the capital of his kingdom, and the re-establishment of deities in Sri Jagannath temple.

This new medical college and hospital in Jajpur will start functioning from 2024.

It is being built on 46 acres of land at a cost of Rs 526.21 crore on 46 acres of land. The state government is in the process of applying before National Medical Commission (NMC) for permission for admission of 100 MBBS students at the newly-built medical college for the academic session 2024-25.

With this new medical college in Jajpur, the total number of Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals in Odisha will go up to 12, with the capacity to intake 1,650 MBBS students every year.
