Odisha Government Seeks Campus Wi-Fi Budget Estimates from Public Varsities

Bhubaneswar: State-run universities in Odisha are set to offer free Wi-Fi facilities to their students on campus, enhancing the academic environment and facilitating e-learning. The initiative, as per the Higher Education department’s notification, aims to provide students with easy access to online study resources and books.

Higher Education Special Secretary Ramakanta Nayak has requested budget estimates for this project from registrars of all public universities. This move follows a commitment made by the ruling BJD party in its 2019 election manifesto to provide free Wi-Fi services in all state-run universities starting from the 2023-24 academic session.

Under this plan, students will receive 1 GB of data, and the Electronics and Information Technology Department will oversee the implementation of this essential service. The installation of Wi-Fi facilities is expected to significantly enhance the educational experience for students in Odisha’s public universities.
