Distinguished Cardiologist JP Das Passes Away at 90

Bhubaneswar: Well-known cardiologist Dr Jadunath Prasad Das, who was popular throughout Odisha as Dr JP Das, passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening at the advanced age of 90.

He is survived by his wife Gayatri Das, a social worker, son Dr Debabrata Das, daughter-in-law Bidya Das, and granddaughter Ishani Das.

Dr Das was suffering from age-related problems. Dignitaries of the state and medical professionals expressed condolences over his death.

Born on August 5, 1933, in Khurdha, Dr Das joined SCB Medical College and Hospital as a professor in 1962 as its first cardiologist. He became the head of the department of the cardiology department at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and also set up a Cardiology Research Centre in Cuttack. Apart from his research papers, he was also well-known for his paintings and social activities.
