12 Arrested for Assaulting 3 UP Sadhus in West Bengal

Kolkata: Twelve persons were arrested on charges of assaulting three sadhus from Uttar Pradesh in West Bengal’s Purulia district. These sadhus were travelling to the Gangasagar Mela in West Bengal. They were beaten up by a mob on Thursday, who suspected the sadhus to be kidnappers.

The three sadhus, who were beaten up included a man and his two sons. They were traveling in a hired vehicle to reach Gangasagar for the Makar Sankranti celebration.

According to Purulia Police, because of a language problem, there was a misunderstanding between the sadhus and three local minor girls. Reportedly, the girls screamed and ran away. The locals present at the spot mistook the sadhus to be abductors, who had misbehaved with the girls. The sadhus apprehended and manhandled the sadhus.

Local police rescued the sadhus and took them to the Kasipur Police Station.
