At Least 41 Including 5 Indians Killed in Fire at Building in Kuwait

At least 41 persons were charred to death in a massive fire at a building that housed workers in the city of Mangaf in southern Kuwait on Wednesday. As per reports, five of the deceased were Indian workers from Kerala.

Kuwait’s deputy prime minister Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah accused real estate owners of violations and greed, saying those factors contributed towards the incident.

“Unfortunately, the greed of real estate owners is what leads to these matters,” said Sheikh Fahad.

The fire occurred at around 6:00 am local time. The building in which the fire occurred was used to house workers. Dozens were rescued, but unfortunately several deaths occurred as the victims were asphyxiated by the smoke from the fire.

The fire was contained and authorities are investigating its cause.
