Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Granted Bail in Liquor Policy Case

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail in the high-profile liquor policy case. The court’s decision came after Kejriwal’s lawyer argued that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) lacked evidence against him.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader is expected to be released from jail tomorrow, pending the arrival of the bail order. Kejriwal’s lawyer stressed that the ED’s case relied heavily on statements from individuals who had turned approvers, implying these testimonies were from those seeking leniency.

The court rejected the ED’s request for a 48-hour delay to challenge the bail order. Kejriwal’s lawyer contended that the prosecution’s case was weakened by the reliance on statements from “tainted” individuals, and there was no direct evidence linking ₹100 crore from the so-called ‘South Group’ to the alleged conspiracy.

The ED had arrested Kejriwal on March 21, accusing him of money laundering linked to the 2021-22 Delhi liquor policy, which was later scrapped. The agency claimed the funds were used for AAP’s election campaign in Goa. Kejriwal’s lawyer argued that there was no substantial proof to support these allegations.
