Bhubaneswar Open Drain Mishap: BMC Asst Engineer Suspended

Bhubaneswar: Santosh Kumar Dash, an assistant engineer of BMC (Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation) drainage division was placed under suspension in connection with the death of an eight-year-old boy, who was swept away in an open drain in the Masjid colony of Unit 3 area of the city.

The suspended engineer was suspended for dereliction of duty.

On June 18, the eight-year-old Abu Babar died when he was swept away in an open drain during heavy rains. He fell into the open drain while trying to catch a balloon floating on the rainwater.

The boy was located in the drain near Oscar City in the Laxmisagar area. Although he was rushed to the Capital Hospital, the doctors declared him brought dead.
