Arvind Kejriwal Moves Supreme Court Against High Court’s Stay On Bail

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to stay his bail in the liquor policy case.

The High Court has temporarily stayed the bail granted by a lower court and postponed further proceedings until June 25.

In his plea to the Supreme Court, Kejriwal argued that the High Court had overlooked essential criteria for evaluating bail cancellation applications. His legal team urged the Supreme Court to expedite the hearing, questioning the High Court’s decision as contradictory to established legal principles governing bail.

The petition pointed that political motives might be behind the case against Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with the Delhi liquor policy issue, just before the Lok Sabha elections. Despite being granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in May due to the elections, Kejriwal surrendered on June 2.
