Mumbai Woman Abandoned by Pakistani Husband Approaches Both Nations for Children’s Custody

Farzana Begum, an Indian-origin woman from Mumbai, who has been allegedly deserted by her Pakistani husband, has sought intervention by governments of both countries to get custody of her children.

She married Yusuf Mirza Ilahi of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2015. After three years, he took her to Pakistan. Later, he returned to Abu Dhabi with their two sons.

Farzana claimed that Yusuf had married multiple times in the past and had deserted his previous wives and children in a similar manner.

Farzana’s plea before a Lahore court is scheduled to be heard on August 15.

Farzana has requested the Indian and Pakistan governments to help her to get her children back. She has urged the Indian Embassy to speak to Abu Dhabi authorities on this issue.

According to Farzana’s Pakistani lawyer, she is the wife of a Pakistani citizen and the mother of two Pakistani children. Therefore, she has the same rights in the country as any Pakistani citizen and it is the duty of the Pakistani government to help Farzana in this matter.
