Election Commission To Announce Haryana, J-K Poll Schedules Today

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India is likely to announce the schedules for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir elections on Friday at 3 PM.

The EC has called up a press conference on Friday afternoon. As per reports, it may be regarding early announcement of Haryana Assembly polls which were held in October 2019.

The EC is also likely to act as per the Supreme Court orders to conduct Jammu and Kashmir polls before September 30.

Recently EC held meetings with political parties in both J-K and Haryana recently.

The term of Haryana Assembly ends on November 3.

In the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir the last Assembly election was held in 2014. The last elected government fell in 2018. The state came under the President’s rule.

On August 5, 2019, the J-K Reorganisation Bill bifurcated the state of Jammu and Kashmir into the UTs of J-K and Ladakh.

In December 2023, the Supreme Court upheld the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and asked the EC to hold elections in J-K by September 30.
