Graft Case Against Ex-Principal Of Kolkata Hospital Where Doctor Was Raped-Murdered

Kolkata: A corruption case was lodged by the Kolkata police against Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a 31-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered.

The police are investigating financial irregularities at the state-run hospital. A complaint regarding it was lodged in June.

The West Bengal government has sped up the matter by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the allegations that have plagued RG Kar Medical College and Hospital since 2021. This SIT will investigate financial misconduct during Dr Ghosh’s tenure, which came to the fore following the rape and murder of the junior doctor inside the hospital premises on August 9.

Dr Ghosh resigned as the principal of RG Kar Medical College two days after the incident. The CBI has interrogated him for nearly 53 hours over the past four days regarding his actions following the doctor’s death.

Questions have been raised about his delay in informing the victim’s parents and his decisions regarding renovations near the crime scene. The CBI has already arrested an accused, Sanjay Roy, and it is being investigated whether some others were involved in the gruesome crime.
