Former RG Kar Medical College Principal Accused of Selling Unclaimed Bodies, Bribery & Trafficking

Kolkata: The former principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh has been accused of involvement in several illegal activities, including selling unclaimed bodies. The accusations were made by Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent at the hospital.

Ghosh is currently under scrutiny by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor inside the hospital’s seminar hall. The CBI have interrogated Ghosh several times, particularly questioning his delay in handing over the victim’s body to her parents.

Ali alleged that Ghosh was involved in trafficking biomedical waste and medical supplies to Bangladesh and claimed that Ghosh would sell unclaimed dead bodies. Additionally, Ali accused Ghosh of demanding bribes from students in exchange for passing exams and taking a 20% commission on tenders. However, the claims made by Ali have not been independently verified.

According to Ali, he reported Ghosh’s activities to the state vigilance commission and was part of a probe panel that found Ghosh guilty. However, Ali was transferred the day he submitted the investigation report to the state health department.

On Tuesday, Kolkata Police initiated their own investigation into financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College, allegedly perpetrated by Ghosh.

A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the matter, and Ghosh is expected to be summoned for questioning soon.

The CBI is also considering a polygraph test on Ghosh due to inconsistencies in his statements.
