4 Dead, Over 20 Injured After Explosion at Pharmaceutical Firm in Andhra Pradesh

Atchutapuram: A devastating explosion rocked the Escientia pharmaceutical plant in the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone on Wednesday, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives and leaving over 20 people injured.

The incident occurred during the lunch break, catching many employees off guard.

Shocking visuals from the scene depict emergency services rushing to the site, with thick plumes of grey smoke billowing into the air.

Anakapalli Superintendent of Police, Deepika Patil, confirmed the deaths and stated that rescue operations are ongoing as smoke and flames continue to engulf the building. Patil clarified that the explosion took place at the reactor site, but not within the reactor itself. The exact cause of the blast is still under investigation.

The injured have been admitted to Anakapalli NTR Hospital and a nearby private hospital for treatment. Emergency services, including police and firefighters, are actively involved in the rescue efforts. A fire department official reported that 10 people have been rescued so far, with efforts continuing to evacuate those trapped inside the building.
